Public’s Help Sought After Dogs Found Injured

Submitted

Collier County Domestic Animal Services is asking for the public’s help providing information after two dogs were found seriously injured in Immokalee.

A Good Samaritan brought the two dogs in as strays to the county’s Immokalee shelter, 405 Sgt. Joe Jones Road, Immokalee Florida 34142, on Thursday evening. One of the dogs, a male black and white terrier and Florida Cur mix, had a severe injury to his nose, consistent with a dog attack injury. The second dog, a female black and white Labrador mix, had injuries consistent with dog bites.

Both dogs were taken to the DAS shelter in Naples, but the Florida Cur’s injuries were so severe that the Gulf Coast Humane Society offered to help with his critical care.

DAS staff believes the dogs’ injuries are consistent with those of bait dogs, which are used to train other dogs to fight in dogfighting circles.

The dogs were found near the Collier County and Hendry County line.

Anyone with information is asked to call Collier County Domestic Animal Services at (239) 252-PETS (7387).
