Port of the Islands Gun Club’s “Shoot Down Kids Cancer” event raised $28,000. All of the money goes to the American Cancer Society’s R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids) program.

The funds pay for kids with cancer to go to Summer Camp for one week each summer. For one week the kids get to be just kids and have fun- hiking, camping, swimming and horseback riding. The R.O.C.K. program also provides college scholarships to cancer survivors. Last year our area sent 35 kids to camp and provided 17 partial scholarships.

“Shoot Down Kids Cancer is an event totally sponsored by Port of the Islands Gun Club and it’s members. Shown holding the check, from the left, are Gary Landis, Dennis “DJ” Gasaway, the gun club manager, and Don Henderson.
