By Steve “Stef” Stefanides For 13 years, the Marco Island Police Foundation’s annual golf outing has helped its support of the Marco Island Police Department officers and families. Last year the outing was named the Dick Shanahan Memorial Tournament, after longtime member and former chairman of the event. Curt Koon, who heads the foundation’s fundraising efforts, stated that event proceeds will support the Foundation’s scholarship program, helping officers and their family pursue higher education goals. This year, some of the proceeds will also be donated to local Hurricane Irma relief efforts. Twenty-five foursomes guided their carts around the J.W.Marriott’s Hammock Bay Golf and Country Club to compete in the 18-hole event, welcomed by Debra Shanahan, who thanked them for their support. The winning foursome was Mike Kelly, Jerry Guidish, Jeff Michaels and Charlie Lostracco (16 under par). Second place went to Sean Shay, Marc Candy, Joanie Hickey and Ron Hughes (13 under par). Other prizes were given for longest drive, closest to the hole and a putting contest, as well as a number of raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Photos by Steve Stefanides
