A39-CBN-04-15-16-2Under skies of brilliant blue, temperatures in the wonderful eighties, and a gentle but gusty breeze blowing in from the east greeted over forty cheerful and patriotic residents and friends showing their pride and love of America. Gerry Rosenblum, Pier 81 Association President expressed gratitude to neighbor, Pier 81 Marina for donating the flag pole. Craig Tirrell, Cub Scout Master along with Melanie Burns, Boy Scout Leader, Randall Olsen and Megan Olsen, Webelos Leaders, led the scouts (Grant Tirrell, James Olsen, Nathan Olsen, James Burns and Michael Distel) who served as the Color Guard in formation to the flag pole. Leader Craig Tirrell called “Attention” and recited a reading as the flag was risen.

After the ceremony, Gerry had a few remarks and thanked contributors who donated money to cover the

installation of the flag pole.

The beautiful flag pole is thirty feet high and is lighted by two flood lights at the base. It is installed in a perfect place, immediately in front of the guard house as you enter the Pier 81 property. The flag will fly 24/7 because it will be lit every night. The last several days leading up to this day of dedication it was really heart-warming to so many of the Pier 81 residents. Almost every day as we met our neighbors, pride and patriotism was freely expressed about having a large beautiful American flag proudly being displayed in Pier 81’s entryway. We are grateful to all who had anything to do with this wonderful event. Refreshments were served to all in the Pier 81 party room.
