On Saturday, March 12th Hideaway Beach Club hosted their 3rd Annual Hideaway Beach Club Patriot Golf Day. Hideaway and many clubs around the nation raise money for the Folds of Honor Foundation by running a Patriot Golf Day.

Dan Rooney is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a PGA of America member, golf course owner, and war veteran. Dan has asked all 27,000 PGA of America members and the facilities that employ them to run a Patriot Golf Day so we may assist in educating the families of those who take care of us.

The mission statement of the Folds of Honor Foundation is written as such:

Honoring Their Sacrifice, Educating Their Legacy. Of the one million-plus dependents adversely affected by deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly nine out of 10 do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor seeks to meet this need by providing annual educational scholarships to the military families of those who have been killed or disabled while in active duty. These scholarships help support private education tuition, tutoring and educational summer camps for children K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and children.

During a 20-25 minute ceremony after golf, there was the playing of the national anthem by the Marco Island Academy (MIA) performance band, followed by three more patriotic songs by the MIA band and choir, acknowledgement and thanks to all veterans present at the ceremony, a moment of silence for Bruce Gengler – Hideaway member and Navy veteran who recently passed, and the thanking all those who played and donated to the cause.

Hideaway raised over $7,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation during Patriot Golf Day. To learn more about the Folds of Honor Foundation please go to www.foldsofhonor.org for details about this wonderful charitable organization.
