Patrice 0’Neal arrives at Capt. Brien’s “Off the Hook” Comedy Club

Patrice O’Neal will be appearing at the “Off the Hook” Comedy Club from Thursday, May 12 through Saturday May 14 and he says the appearances her is the next stop on the twenty year journey he has taken in comedy. Patrice was raised in the Roxbury section of Boston and became a star high school football player which led him to Northeastern University and its football program. O’Neal discovered the Theater Arts program and quit sports to concentrate and graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts. O’Neal relates “I was in this club called Estelle’s in Boston and was heckling the comic on stage who challenged me to come to Open Mic night and try it for myself. I did and kept on going from there. This was back in 1992. “Patrice then started working the circuit of the clubs and private events in the New England and New York areas. O’Neal then moved to Los Angeles to try his hand at movies and TV. Nothing panned out so he moved to England where he became a well known comic in the

clubs.

Patrice returned to New York and worked at The Comedy Cellar which led to appearances on The Apollo Comedy Hour, Showtime at the Apollo, Friday Night Videos and he eventully joined the cast of Tough Crowd with Saturday Night Alumnus Colin Quinn. More appearances followed on Comedy Central, HBO’s One Night Stand, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Opie and Anthony’s Traveling Virus Comedy Tour, the host of VH1’s Web Junk 20 and in February of this year filmed and aired his Comedy Central special called Elephant in the Room.

Patrice also has worked as a script writer for the World Wrestling Federation, was a regular on Fox’s The Jury, has appeared on the NBC show ED, The Chappele Show, The Office, Arrested Development and has also made appearances on Fox’s Hannity and Colmes. Patrice also is a regular guest and sometimes co- host of Sirius XM Channel 202, The Opie and Anthony Show.

Patrice and I talked about comedy and his ideas on what makes a comedian successful. “First of all, O’Neal states, you have

to have a dream and act on your dreams.” “I have a desire to make people laugh and discovered I could do that at the age of 8.” “Comedy is a business of fun and in coming to Marc Island, my job is to look for a bond with the audience and let the audience trust you.” “My humor is topical, more emotional and more fulfilling; gaining that trust is what it is’s all about”. When asked about future plans for radio, TV or movies, Patrice stated” I want to do it all and with everyone having a good time.”

Patrice O’Neal is available on Facebook, My Space, and many You Tube Videos of his performances but it’s always best to see him live.
