Join the party to find out why boaters have more fun at the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron (MISPS) Wine and Hors d’Oeuvres Party on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the San Marco Catholic Church Parish Center. The event takes place from 5 to 7:30 PM, and everyone is invited to come, have fun, and enjoy great food and fine wine while contributing to a good cause.

The annual Wine and Hors d’Oeuvres Party is the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron’s only fundraiser. All of the money raised is used to sponsor boating and safety events, ongoing boater safety and education classes, and free vessel safety checks. There will a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) table where Tom Ryan, VSC Chair, will help anyone to make arrangements to have their boat inspected for free. Also there will be a membership table where Pam Sander, membership chair, will be able to take the application for anyone wanting to join at a discounted rate for the first year.

The Marco Sail and Power Squadron’s emcee, Commander Peggy Reiss, will be center stage at the event to announce winning tickets for raffle prizes every five minutes, the high bidders for the silent auction, the $250 door prize, and the two 50/50 drawings for amounts determined by the number of tickets sold.

Partygoers can expect to feast on a bountiful assortment of fabulous foods, from shrimp platters and pizza to antipasti and dips. Great desserts will be displayed on separate tables, along with coffee service that Kitchen and Dining Room Chairs Pat Mogan and Sheila Thieme, and members of their committees, will arrange. The party’s food tables will be colorfully decorated with a nautical theme created by MISPS Decoration Chair Andy Battaglia.

The customary twin wine bars manned by MISPS past commanders will be at both sides of the room, with the silent auction tables located in the front and center of the elevated stage. Cold beer and a variety of soft drinks and water will also be available.

Gene Burson, chair of the event, reports that prizes and gift certificates from restaurants and services are accumulating at a steady pace, including a fire pit, a bicycle, and “babysitting” for six months for your boat. There are lots of fabulous items to bid on in the silent auction, and the raffle tickets will be available for chances to win items donated by members, local restaurants, merchants and other businesses.

As they begin their 38th year of service to Marco Island community, the members of the Sail and Power Squadron look forward to another successful and fun-filled evening that will allow them to continue their support of knowledgeable and safe boating practices.
