Marco’s Sunrise Rotary Club will be hosting an old fashioned Party in the Park this weekend at the Veterans Community Park on Park Avenue. This event will provide a number of activities for islanders throughout the weekend.

Starting on Saturday morning, islanders will be able to stroll through a village of arts and crafts vendors selling their wares in addition to educational displays by 15 of the island’s most active non-profits who will explain their programs.

Island businesses such as Walkers Marine will have boats on display and will be prepared to discuss the services offered by their company to island mariners or potential buyers.

The Marco Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring the Marco Sports Challenge for kids from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday afternoon as part of the Party in the Park. The Rec/Park staff has assembled a number of great physical challenges for the youngsters to try.

If you’re hungry, the Sunrise Rotary club will be sponsoring a Chicken Barbeque for islanders which will be served from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. They will be also offering hot dogs and hamburgers, along with ice cold refreshments for young and old alike.

If you enjoy music you’re encouraged to bring your own beach chairs to listen to Larry D on Saturday afternoon while he plays your favorite tunes from the last several decades.

On Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, you’ll be able to listen to one of the island’s favorite groups, the Marco Island Strummers, perform a concert at Veterans Community Park for residents and visitors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beach chairs to sit and enjoy the festivities in addition to the food, beverages and the Arts and Crafts fair.

There is no admission charge and for questions regarding the event you should call the Party in the Park chairman, Steve “Stef” Stefanides from the Sunrise Rotary Club at 250-8348.
