The Marco Island YMCA celebrated a 30-year tradition with its renowned “Love of the Y” Tennis Tournament from February 7–9. The tournament brought 94 eager participants from local clubs spanning Marco Island, Naples, and Bonita Springs. “Love of the Y” kicked off with a player’s reception on the evening of February 7th, followed by two full days of tennis on Saturday and Sunday.
Participants with all levels of experience competed, and winners were named in each division—from Women’s and Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles levels. First–place finishers included Sally Mattke and Jenny Sullivan in the Women’s 3.0 Division, Deb Caudill and Gloria Anderson in the Women’s 3.5 Division, Tim Huffman and Greg Huston in the Men’s 3.5 Division. Lori Hawes and Bernadette DiPino in the Women’s 4.0 Division. Mike and Victoria Alverez in the Mixed 6/0 Division, Ramsay Erickson and Mark Waks in the Mixed 7.0 Division. Andrea Washak and Ben Moore in the Mixed 8.0 Division.
Thanks to the donations of many gracious local sponsors and YMCA member volunteers, “Love of the Y” continues to be a Marco Island tradition stemmed from decades before. Sponsors included The Harbor Goldsmith, Julie and Brock Wilson of Sotheby’s Realtors, Affordable Landscaping Service and Design, Boyd Baker Musik, Elaine’s Kitten Emporium, Centennial Bank, Staybridge Suites, Sunshine Stitchers, Island Roofing, Dolphin Auto Spa and GoodYear.
“The Love of the Y” Tennis Tournament is one of many annual fundraisers held by the YMCA, all of which are rooted in the ultimate goal to serve the underprivileged of Collier County. The YMCA motto is to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Upcoming YMCA Sponsored events include the 10th Annual Tour De Marco February 23rd and the 12th Annual Mutts and Margaritas March 11th.
