On Monday, April 26, the City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department held its Inaugural Summer Camp Expo. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. parents and children visited Mackle Park’s Community Center to get information on Camp Mackle, the City of Marco Island’s first, very own summer day camp, and the 15 summer enrichment camps provided by the Parks and Recreation Department. This summer’s enrichment camps include: MICKYS Sailing, Jr. Chefs, Lacrosse Camp, Babysitter Boot Camp, PADI & Open Water SCUBA Certification, Volleyball Camp, Police/Fire Academy, MarcoCity Tumbling and Cheer Camp, Beginner Golf Camp, Green Thumb/Gardening Camp, Beach Soccer Fun Camp, Jewelry Making Camp, 10 Rules of Etiquette Camp, H2O Camp: Extreme Water Sports, and the Racquet Center’s youth tennis programs.
Each camp had its own table manned by the camp’s instructor and stocked with information and promotional materials. The H20 Camp table was complete with a promotional video, wakeboard, and skim board and the SCUBA Certification table featured SCUBA gear, including a tank and a regulator. The Lacrosse Camp recruited some Lely High School Girls’Varsity Lacrosse players to demonstrate equipment use. This event was an incredible opportunity for parents and children to meet the instructors, to get their questions answered, to get excited about camp, and to get registered. The Parks and Recreation staff was extremely pleased with the turnout and look forward to making this an annual event.
For individuals unable to attend the Expo, information on all summer camp programs is listed in the City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Summer Program Guide which is available at Mackle Park or on the City’s website, www.cityofmarcoisland.com.
