The Parallel Harmonies: Art and Nature Exhibit runs May 22 to October 31, 2018 at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center.
This collection of work by Cesar Aguilera, Paul Arsenault, Juan Diaz, and Katia Miranda celebrates the relationship between the artist and the natural world that inspires him or her. This relationship has evolved over the millennia and is still a central focus of contemporary practice for many artists today. Relationships are symbiotic, one taking care of the other. In a time of global climate change, artists are using the inspiration of nature and its current health to bring light and change to human patterns of behavior. They aim to protect this relationship and care for what inspires them. Wind, color. Trees, texture. Sun, vibrancy.
The title and theme of this exhibit is inspired by two quotes: “Art is a harmony parallel with nature” (Paul Cézanne) and “An artist must possess Nature. He must identify with her rhythm, by efforts that will prepare the mastery which will later enable him to express himself in his own language” (Henri Matisse).
The Opening Reception will take place on Friday, June 1 from 5:30-7 PM. The Closing Reception will be on Friday, October 26 from 5:30-7 PM. Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center is located at 300 Tower Road, Naples.
