Optimist Names Bowden Firefighter of the Year

Marco Island firefighter/paramedic Chris Bowden was named Firefighter of the Year by the South Florida District International Optimist. The award criteria places strong emphasis on educational outreach, something Chris is very passionate about. As Public Education Coordinator for the Marco Island Fire Department, Chris is dedicated to educating Marco’s youth on fire and life safety.

As part of his educational outreach Chris helped coordinate the YMCA Water-Wise program, which teaches third grade students about water safety. He created a nine-part educational video series on fire safety that is broadcasted at local elementary schools. Chris is also responsible for the Fire/Police Youth Safety Program, a mini police/fire academy for high school students.

The competition for the award included 40 South Florida districts. Chris earned this honor because of his drive, dedication and unmatched services to Marco Island. Congratulations Chris!
