The correct mixture of sugar and salt in water can rehydrate our bodies for more energy. When you have the correct mixture of abstract and realistic artists interpreting a specific topic our minds can expand as you see the world through new eyes. You no longer focus on the differences. You can become re-energized with possibilities. “Opposites Attract” may be an old-fashioned saying but in the art world it remains an intriguing idea and for Marco Island Center for the Arts a captivating exhibition.

Abstract art is composed of shapes, forms, colors and textures. The artwork no longer has any literal, representational reference points. It can also be called nonrepresentational art. Realistic art depicts the world in accurate and recognizable images. You understand the composition.

The following artists are participating in “Opposites Attract”: Shirley Blake, Inez Hudson, Joseph Parisi, DVM, Diane Shagott, Christina Skibicki and David Sussman.

In the Rush Gallery, the Marco Island Charter Middle School under the direction of art teacher Gigi Garraty has created art in celebration of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. You may see a few skulls just hanging around.

All the artwork is for sale in the galleries, unless otherwise noted.

Marco Island Center for the Arts is located at 1010 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. For more information call 239-394-4221 or visit
