One down, many more to go…

DECEASED!

DECEASED!

On Sunday May 1, 2011, leader of Al-Qaida and murderer of thousands, Osama Bin Laden was located and terminated by the very elite Special Team 6 of the Navy Seals. Thus ends the life of one of the most outrageous criminals in human history. Son of a very wealthy Saudi family, Bin Laden dedicated his life to hating Americans and killing as many of them as possible. During his reign of terror, he also ended up killing thousands of Muslims in whose name he was purported to be conducting his murderous activities. Much has been written about Bin Laden, some true, some false, some exaggerated and some mythical. Therefore I don’t find it useful to give a biography of this thug to bore the readers or to lionize him. What is important now is what will happen from this point on and why is it important for us as Americans to understand how colossal an event this was; killing of Osama.

In Western societies a man like Osama is never and will never be a hero. He is a villain, a mass murderer of innocent civilians and will remain a villain for years to come. However, in some predominantly Muslim societies a man like Osama is a hero; just like Saddam was in Iraq. When we invaded Iraq and freed the Iraqi people from the clutches of this murderous dictator, we expected a huge welcome; instead we met

the insurgents and followers of Saddam who were ready to protect and fight for him. We were sorely disappointed and as a country we were not satisfied until we saw his bearded face emerge from a spider hole, with his hands up in the air begging for mercy.  In the minds of a large number of Muslims in the Middle East and around the world Saddam was a man who stood up to the West, drew his sword and fought until the end!

As far as Osama is concerned it is too early to draw any definite conclusions. Today is only a day after his death and most of his followers are probably hiding in their protected environments; not in caves and steep mountains as we were once led to believe, but under the protection of one or more rogue regimes around the world, living in relative safety and luxury. These followers led by a new leadership will slowly emerge from their hiding places, their collective mouths dripping with blood of revenge and they will try to cause numerous problems for innocent civilians around the world, be it Western or Eastern in the name of their fallen leader Osama Bin Laden and Islam.

As far as America and Americans are concerned; we must be resolute; we must be strong; we must be united and we must never fall into the political correctness trap we so often seem to succumb to. Osama

understood and spoke only one language and that was the language of brutality which came with power.  He was never interested in making peace with the West; he was never interested in leading a peaceful and democratic society. Using his sword, he wanted to change the world into a society of blind followers who would have no respect for their countries, no respect for human rights, no respect for women’s rights; a society of men who would not hesitate to put their women behind covers with no rights and would not allow them to make any contributions to their society other than giving birth to a lot of children and being homebound slaves to their men.

Osama is dead and sent to the bottom of the sea. There will be no gravesite for followers to visit; no state funerals to honor him. Yet he may still be considered a martyr to his followers. We should not be too bothered with this. His organization Al Qaida is now in disarray and without a leader, albeit a symbolic one as he had become in later years. Our government must now look at our relationship with Pakistan and determine whether it is worth sending this country upwards of three billion Dollars per year for military assistance. After all, Osama lived 35 miles from downtown Islamabad and next to a large military installation in a large house in a very large compound. He was

under full protection of the Government of Pakistan. How can the Pakistani’s claim they never knew he was there? And if they did, how can anyone believe them? And why should they!

Most of the credit for this picture-perfect operation must go to our intelligence services which were maligned of late; to our armed forces who were beginning to question themselves and their abilities after stretched out Iraq and Afghanistan wars; and most of all to the families of the twenty five or so members of the Navy Special Seal Team 6 who never knew where their loved ones were before, during or after this operation.

As Americans we must all be very vigilant in the days and months to come, make sure we do not let our collective guards down; stop questioning our motives and start questioning our enemies’ motives. As for Osama, I am sure he has found out by now that there weren’t 72 virgins waiting for him in a place where rivers of milk and honey run through hills of emerald grass under skies of perfect blue. It is most probably a few hungry sharks and vicious barracudas circling for a bite at the prize amongst green fields of sea weed. So, now it is one down and a few more to go.  God Bless America and our Armed Forces everywhere.
