OBITUARY: Kevin McManus



A9-CBN-2-7-14-1Kevin Anthony McManus, 56, of Marco Island, FL and formerly of Washington, D.C. died on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL. The cause of death was lung cancer.

Mr. McManus began his career as a young man working in the U.S. Senate, first in the Mail Room, then operating the elevator service for Senators casting votes, and eventually, for the Broadcast Services of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. After leaving government service he joined NBC in Washington, D.C. and had a long career in broadcasting, serving as a videographer for NBC News and their affiliates. He covered numerous political conventions, traveled internationally to record such events as the Sydney Olympic Games and the celebration of Pope John Paul in Rome, and also spent countless hours ‘waiting’ for the news to happen in many assigned locations. His final professional endeavor was a short documentary to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Tradewinds Condominiums of Marco Island. His contributions of time and expertise were greatly appreciated by the residents and he left a valuable legacy to that community.

He was preceded in death by his father, William F. McManus of Washington, D.C. and Naples, FL; and his mother, Gloria C. McManus (nee Dame) of Washington, D.C.

He is survived and dearly loved by his three sisters; two nieces; two nephews; and his step-mother.
