On September 19, the City of Marco Island’s Parks and Recreation Department held the nationwide NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition at Mackle Park. Forty three participants took part in the City’s sixth year of hosting the competition. The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick football competition allows young athletes to showcase their talents in the skills of punting, passing and kicking. Their scores are based on distance and accuracy and the highest cumulative score for one punt, one pass, and one kick determines the winner in each age group.
The winners of this year’s Marco Island Competition are:
Girls 10-11 Years Old: Abigail Meredith with a total score of 119.3
Boys 6-7 Years Old: Nicholas Vergo with a total score of 54.2
Boys 8-9 Years Old: Grant Gordo with a total score of 151.7
Boys 10-11 Years Old: Jason Lang with a total score of 170.3
Boys 12-13 Years Old: Jay Vanderjagt with a total score of 257.8
Boys 14-15 Years Old: Crandell Maines with a total score of 292.7
These six winners will now move on to a Sectional Competition to be held at the Miami Dolphins’ Training Facility in Davie, Florida on Saturday, October 8th at 10:00 am. Their performance at the Sectional Competition could qualify them for the Team Championship competition to be held at Sun Life Stadium on December 3rd.
The Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank all of the young athletes and their parents who came out to compete this year, many of whom traveled from Naples. The Department would also like to thank once again the Marco Island Senior Softball League who acted as the “Field Crew” spotting and measuring up the event along with the Coaches from Marco Island Charter School, Mike Vanderjagt and Jim Young.
