The YMCA’s new Director of Fundraising and Grant Development, Steve Lampar, can barely contain his enthusiasm as he irons out the final details for the 11th Annual Tour de Marco Bicycle Tour, coming up this Sunday, February 21.

You see, it’s Lampar’s debut performance in his new position at the YMCA of South Collier, and he’s excited because he’s seeing brisk sign-ups on Active.com.

“I’ve been on the island for two years, but I’m new to the YMCA,” Lampar said. “I started in December at the Marco YMCA and the Naples YMCA.”

“We have a lot of people registered already,” Lampar said. “We’re hoping to have even more register this week.”

“The support I’ve had for my first Tour de Marco has been phenomenal. This is going to be my first event for the YMCA, so it’s pretty special to me.”

“We’re going to take precautions,” Lampar assures. “We don’t want people getting in big groups. We’re looking at how we’re going to arrange the lines. That’s one of the great things about this event. This is an event we really wanted to do. Because it’s outside, and it promotes healthy living, which is one of the staples for the YMCA. It just seems like people really enjoy this event. I realize the importance of it.” Lampar said the YMCA has had to cancel a lot of events this year that were scheduled for indoors.

Registration for the Tour de Marco starts at 7:00 AM Sunday morning. The tour starts and finishes at the YMCA at 101 Sandhill Street on Marco Island.

The Tour de Marco has been described as the most beautiful bicycle tour in Southwest Florida because of the many scenic views it provides its riders.

The annual bicycle tour features 15 and 30 mile rides that wind throughout the island. Both rides take participants on picturesque tours of the island, including the hilly estates area.

Island Bike Shop is the title sponsor and provides support on both the 15- and 30-mile rides. Refreshment stops are provided by Sascha’s Salon and The Needles Group at John R. Wood Properties.

Riders can sign up online at active.com or at marcoymca.org by February 20th. Pre-registration is $45/individual, $75/family. There is a $10 late fee for registration on the day of the ride. For more details or questions email grants@marcoy.org.
