Following the events of Hurricane Irma, the MIRC received a makeover which included improvements to the Pro Shop, racquetball building, and the resurfacing of the tennis and pickleball courts. The facility now boasts six Har-Tru tennis courts, five dedicated pickleball courts, one dual purpose hard court to accommodates both tennis and pickleball, and two indoor racquetball courts. Happily, construction was finally completed near the end of November 2018, and now, with season in full-swing, a flurry of daily activity now encompasses the Marco Island Racquet Center. To celebrate the completion of construction, becoming fully operational with professional instruction, and to welcome players back for season, the Parks & Recreation Department held an Open House recently at the Marco Island Racquet Center located at 1275 San Marco Road.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the public, our members, staff, and instructors for showing their patience and support during this long process. This Open House is our way to show support to them,” remarked Lola Dial, Recreation Program Manager.
During the Open House, guests were treated to refreshments, free play time, free instruction offered by the MIRC professional instructors, and a meet and greet with Parks & Rec staff. Throughout the event, winning raffle tickets were drawn announcing generous prizes which included free lessons and clinics donated by the MIRC instructors: Professional Tennis Instructors, Nettie Musick and Bud Cox, and Professional Pickleball Instructor and Juniors Tennis, Pickleball and Volleyball Youth Coach, Jodi Pree.
The Marco Island Racquet Center, open to the public, offers daily professional instruction and clinics for all ages and skill levels, tennis leagues, tennis round robins, pickleball socials, open pickleball play times, and court rentals for tennis, pickleball, and racquetball. Annual and monthly memberships are also available.
