At the recent meeting of the Calusa Garden Club, members were proud to induct six new members: Monique Doyle, Tiki Finney, Eva Kubinsky, Sharon Lewis, Kimberly Korb Porter and Jane Robinson.
After the business meeting, Club members listened and also participated in a presentation on water lilies given by Danny Cox, Aquatic Plants Director of Naples Botanical Gardens. Cox presented a Powerpoint presentation on the biology of waterlilies, and demonstrated how Naples Botanical Gardens mixes chemicals in its waterlily ponds to prevent sunburn to the waterlily stems. He passed around to the members several beautiful large, brightly colored water lilies, along with their stems and leaves, and engaged the Club members by letting them touch and examine the water lilies. Club members were interested in how Naples Botanical Garden keeps its water lilies healthy and admired the large purple, yellow and white blossoms.
