New Group to Hold Fundraiser for Y

A small group of Marco Island residents are organizing a fundraiser to help the YMCA build a Youth Development Center for the 2015-2016 school year.

According to Fritzi Holmes, one of the organizers, “the number of children under (the Y’s) care has grown, and the Marco Y is desperately in need of a larger more updated facility.”

To make that dream come true, the group is holding “Dining for a Dream,” an elegant evening of dining and dancing, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Tickets are $150 per person.

The evening will be divided into three sets:

  • The first set will begin at 5 PM at the Rose History Auditorium where appetizers, wine and other refreshments will be served. A brief video will be presented explaining the goal and the need for the fundraiser.
  • The second set will begin at approximately 5:45 PM, when guests will be transported by limos or vans to a number of fine homes on Marco listed by Pat Wilkins, Linda Sandlin, Dale Glon and other local realtors. A number of Marco’s finest restaurants — including Bistro Soleil, the Island Country Club, DaVinci’s, Ciao Bella, Marco Island Fish Co., Mango’s, Fin Bistro and the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort — will cater an elegant dinner to be served to a small group of 6-12 guests at each of the homes.
  • The third set will begin at about 7:45 PM when guests will be transported back to the Rose History Auditorium for dessert, wine and refreshments. A live band and dancing will be part of the festivities. A raffle drawing for numerous fine prizes will be held, as well as a live auction featuring a one-week trip to a Steamboat Springs, CO, condo and an invitation to join in on a yacht party at the Goodland Boat Parade.

“It is a little known fact that the Marco Island YMCA provides summer school, preschool, kindergarten and after-school care for some of the neediest residents of our county. Our YMCA nurtures and cares for the children of the workers who make our lives more enjoyable,” says Holmes.

“Please help us make this dream come true.”

Tickets may be purchased at the Marco Island YMCA. For further information, please contact Holmes at 239-394-0974 or fritziholmes@gmail.com.
