How do you tell the difference between male and female Bald Eagles? Very carefully and preferably with a high powered scope: The beak of a female eagle is deeper (distance from top to chin) than the beak of a male.
Bald eagles, our national symbol for the United States, are a state and federally protected species. Eagles mate for life and return to their traditional nest by October 1st to produce from one to three eggs. Around December 18, 2010, two eaglets hatched at the Tigertail Court Nest site. By March 11th, both eaglets ventured out on their first shaky flights over the entire Tigertail habitat as residents and nature enthusiasts nervously watched and cheered.
