Naples Top City for Future Job Growth

Submitted

Naples was named the top place in the United States for job growth, according to a report released July 29 by Moody’s Analytics.

Naples is expected to see a 4.6 percent job growth through 2017, according to the report. Five other cities appear in the top 10, including Orlando at No. 4, Ocala at No. 5, Port St. Lucie at No. 9 and North Port at No. 10.

“Five Florida metro areas with significant retiree populations rank among the 10 places with the fastest projected job growth over the next three years, according to forecasts from Moody’s Analytics. These areas are creating jobs in construction, retail and healthcare to service the influx of retirees moving there,” according to the report.

Areas like Naples are adding jobs at a faster rate because of the population growth among baby boomers,” said Moody’s Analytics economist Kwame Donaldson, who focuses on the Florida market. “These retirees are like permanent tourists. You get all of the benefits of migration without many of the costs like competition for wages or strains on the justice and education systems.”

Forbes looked at the 200 largest metro areas by population for its annual feature on Best Places for Businesses.

“We are thrilled that Forbes Magazine sees Naples as the country’s top spot for job growth,” said Bruce Register, director of Collier County’s Office of Business and Economic Development.

“Collier County has worked tirelessly to make it easier for businesses to succeed and create jobs. Through our partnership with the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, we are now in the middle of a three-year strategy to strengthen and diversify our local economy. This accolade supports that our efforts have been worthwhile,” Register said.
