Naples Free-Net, a low cost Internet connectivity option for Collier County residents since 1995, announces a series of computer training classes, many of them free of charge. New this year is training on Cloud computing via free Google Apps. Other topics covered monthly are WordPress, E-mail Marketing, Facebook for non-profits, Blogging for non-profits and how to get started on donor management systems.
Classes are taught by Birgit Pauli-Hauck of Pauli-Systems a website development and Internet communications firm and James McDonald, former Director of Religious Education in Southwest Florida, who has worked as a consultant, trainer and facilitator for emerging technologies for churches, not-for-profit organizations and small businesses.

Word Press for Beginners Wednesday March 21, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Students will learn how to add and edit information on a WordPress website, how to upload photos and other files, and add them to pages and post. WordPress is easy to use and provides a large array of features out of the box. Adding and editing text on pages and posts. Preparing, uploading and inserting photos. Formatting and arranging materials for the site. Organize content in categories and subpages. After leaving the class, you will be able to access your work from your personal computer in order to further develop the website. Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge (i.e. saving files, making directories) and Basic Internet experience (i.e. work with an Internet browser, finding web sites, e-mail). Free events. No charge.

How to use RSS Feeds (Live Feed) Friday February 10, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This hands-on class for the Internet user helps you to retrieve information faster and easier while being on low bandwidth. Discover a better way to browse beyond the noise of advertising and the vast amount of web addresses. Keep posted on the newest information about your current topics of interest without using e-mail. Students will learn how to use available online tools, locate lists of regional and local RSS feeds, learn how to subscribe and unsubscribe so you maintain control. This course covers how to create a Facebook Page and how to integrate an online strategy. Students learn how to navigate Facebook as an organization’s administrator and online activists. How to provide information to support your champions.

Google Apps – Taught in two sessions on Thursdays, March 8 and March 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Covers Cloud computing and the advantages and disadvantages of using the “Cloud.” During the class you will find out how to establish a Google Apps Account and learn about gmail, geo-tagging and how to set up a calendar, Google notifications, and monitor blogs and websites, as well as how to share and manage documents. The class also covers advanced Google Apps for businesses and a review of services such as MailChimp, Mavenlink, and Survey Monkey. Learn to use Google Docs to download/upload files, review templates and get an overview of Sessions 1 and 2. Free events. No charge.
E-mail Marketing for Nonprofits – Friday, March 30, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Once you post your news to the web, how can you send it out to your e-mail list/subscribers, without recreating the content? This class will show you methods on blog posting, and link it via RSS feed to your e-mail marketing system. Update your web site and inform your constituents at the same time.
