Each spring the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts (MIFA) accepts applications for scholarships from students seeking a college education in music, visual arts or a performing area of study.
On Saturday, May 23rd, the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts is happy to announce those who have been chosen to receive a scholarship during the Recognition Luncheon at the Wesley United Methodist Church. They include Joseph Byrne, beginning study in Theatre, Vocal Performance and Writing; Livia LenHoff, beginning study in motion design and illustration at Ringling School of Art and Design; Tyler MacDonald, continuing study in business, photography and art and Theodor Schimek, continuing study in illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design.
The Marco Island Foundation for the Arts has also named local artist, writer and educator, Tara O’Neill, 2015 Artist of the Year. Noted for her vivid oil paintings, Tara exhibits her work in many local shows and public installations. She is represented by Blue Mangrove Gallery in Marco Town Center.
Tara is known for her column in the Coastal Breeze entitled ‘The Artful Life’ in which she focuses on the arts and their importance in our community. She also teaches art classes to adults and children at the Centerfor the Arts.
Tara is a founding member and President of the Goodland Arts Alliance (GAA), a nonprofit organization. Now in its 3rd year, the GAA is working with Collier County to restore and preserve historic fishing cottages in Goodland, FL for future use as art studios. MIFA applauds Tara for her leadership and service to the GAA. She is an exemplary professional in her field, who is always working to foster the arts in our local community.
Both Tara O’Neill and our four scholarship winners will be recognized at our annual luncheon on Saturday May 23rd beginning at 11:30 AM at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 S. Barfield Dr., Marco Island, in the Fellowship Hall. We invite friends and family to come and celebrate with us.
