Breaking with tradition, Marco Island Academy’s 2018 Homecoming game was a volleyball game instead of football. On Friday, September 21, the home team section of the MICMS Gymnasium was filled with loud cheers and a blue wave of students brimming with school spirit to celebrate MIA’s Homecoming Volleyball game as the Lady Rays faced the Paladins of Mason Classical Academy. The evening began with the presentation of the 2018 Homecoming Court escorted by their parents and family members.
Homecoming Court Representatives included:
- Freshman- Amelia Dorris & Luke McClain
- Sophomore- Reese Jones & Johnny Watt
- Junior- Lauren Faremouth & Hunter Delgado
Nominees for Homecoming Queen included: Emily Boxma, Anna Chamberlin, Lauren DeHooghe, and Teagan Havemeier. Homecoming King nominees included: Joshua Ames, Jay Cartwright, Garrett Chamberlin, and Sean Sorrick.
In honor of the occasion, the MIA Choir performed the National Anthem before the Homecoming Game commenced. Both teams came out strong in game one with only a point separating the score until MIA broke the pattern and edged out at 25-23. In the second game, the Lady Rays ran away with an 18-6 lead forcing the Paladins to call a time out and again at 23-9. The second game went to MIA, 25-10. The MIA Cheerleaders performed for the crowd before the third game where the Lady Rays dominated, taking an early lead of 11-1, which the Paladins couldn’t recover from. The Lady Rays defeated the Paladins in three games: 25-23, 25-10, 25-13. Leading the Lady Rays, Camryn Rose downed 14 kills, and Skye LaButte totaled nine aces.
On Saturday night, at the Homecoming Dance: A Night in Paradise at the Island Country Club, Anna Chamberlin and Jay Cartwright were announced as Homecoming Queen and King.
