How does it feel to be the very best at something across the entire United States? Very few of us will ever know that feeling, but our local neighbor Linda Fernandes does.
Linda is a member of the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron, and part of her duties for the past year were to create what is known as the Charles F. Chapman Scrapbook. This scrapbook is intended to document the history of a local Power Squadron through press clippings, posters, leaflets, and photos. This memorabilia is intended to memorialize the activities of the group for 2015 related to vessel inspections, public boating education, social service, community events, and Safe Boating Week. Each of the 400 squadrons across the United States may choose to send a Charles F. Chapman Scrapbook entry forward to district, state, and national competitions. Due to the excellence of the work done by Linda Fernandes, that is precisely what Commander William Hughes chose to do. He was extremely pleased to learn that Linda’s was determined to be the very best in the nation, and that she would be awarded the First Place plaque.
The Bridge Officers for the current year hope to repeat Linda’s success and see yet another award for the activities of the squadron memorialized in the 2016 scrapbook.
