At a gathering held recently at Stonewall’s restaurant, Paul Meyer announced he was throwing his hat in the ring as a candidate for City Council. In five short years Paul Meyer has become well known around the island. He is a businessman and a family man. He generously volunteers his time as the Chairman of the Parks and Rec Advisory committee; he’s the concessionaire for the Senior Men’s Softball League where he donates all of the proceeds back to Parks and Rec. He is also known to donate his time at the Racquet Center and at many of the schools here on Marco Island where he is affectionately known as “Mr. Paul.”
Paul is originally from the Chicago suburbs growing up near O’Hare airport. He started his own heating and air-conditioning business at the age of 26. He sold the business 13 years later, moved to Wisconsin, got married and became a stay-at-home dad. Paul is father to three girls now attending Tommie Barfield Elementary: Megan, ten years old, Molly, eight years old and Madeline, who is five years old. His wife, Mary, is a familiar face as the Publix pharmacist and now, a campaign treasurer. On top of that, Paul is also a HVAC contractor and operates Meyer Contractors, Inc.
Paul does not have a political background, but feels he would be a good voice for families on the island. Gigi Spina said, “if he runs the city like he runs his household, we will be in great shape! Paul is an unbelievable gentleman and a great guy.” That sentiment was echoed among supporters in attendance. Other comments included, “He has many good qualities.” “He’s for the future of our island.”
