When residents along Factory Bay awoke this past Tuesday morning, they were astonished to see a vessel larger than any other that had ever moored anywhere around the island. They were seeing the vessel SeaFair on its maiden voyage visiting Marco Island.
The vessel was in Marco for a two-night stay as part of a special treat for the President’s Club Members of Verizon Corporation, which was holding a company conference at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort.
The vessel itself is 228 feet in length, is 50 foot high and has a 50-foot beam. “This surely is the largest vessel we’ve ever hosted,” said Dan High, the General Manager of Rose Marina on Bald Eagle Drive. “We were prepared for her arrival and made the necessary accommodations for her, the crew and their needs,” continued High.
The privately owned $40 million Super Mega Yacht event venue, which specializes in private charters, corporate events, fundraisers, galas, weddings and charity functions quickly became a major curiosity for all who saw her. The vessel can handle up to 1,000 guests for an event, but they usually deal with about 600 guests for a normal function.
City Councilman Howard Reed, an avid mariner himself, was welcomed aboard by Captain Miguel Villaverde, as he and Katie from marketing gave Reed a personal tour of the vessel.
On Wednesday morning the 99-ton vessel fired up its twin 875 horsepower Caterpillar marine diesels and headed back to its berth at the upscale Bayfront Park in the heart of Miami.
