The Research Team on board the Dolphin Explorer is happy to share information about your area dolphins with the Coastal Breeze News readers. Each edition an individual will be profiled so that you, too, might get to know them. Dolphins can be identified by the nicks and marks on their dorsal fins.
Sydney is an adult female bottlenose dolphin that has given birth to at least three calves in the last twelve years. By her side at this time is 20-month-old Nemo, born in the fall of 2016. Nemo will stay with Sydney for at least three years.
She also gave birth in 2010 to Jing Jing, who gave birth to Jordan eight months ago.
In addition to raising Nemo, this means Sydney is grandmother to Jordan. Note the markings on Sydney’s fin. You might find her anywhere from the Jolley Bridge area canals to the Isles of Capri bays.
