The Research Team on board the Dolphin Explorer is happy to share information about your area dolphins with the Coastal Breeze News readers. Each edition an individual will be profiled so that you, too, might get to know them. Dolphins can be identified by the nicks and marks on their dorsal fins.
This adult female gave birth in August to her third known calf, named Sand Dollar. She is also the mother of Scamp, born in 2012, and Tigertail, born in 2016. Mothers in this area tend to give birth every three to six years. Sand Dollar should benefit from mom’s previous experience.
Rakes is seen regularly where the Marco River meets the Gulf of Mexico, just off of Tigertail Beach.
