The Research Team on board the Dolphin Explorer is happy to share information about your area dolphins with the Coastal Breeze News readers. Each edition an individual will be profiled so that you, too, might get to know them. Dolphins can be identified by the nicks and marks on their dorsal fins.
Meet Tess and Nadine
In the photograph, the dorsal fin at the left belongs to an adult female named Tess. The fin to the right belongs to her daughter, Nadine.
Nadine, who was born in 2009, has reached physical maturity and is now capable of having a calf.
Guess what? Tess’ daughter had her first baby a few months ago and it is named Pigeon. That makes Tess one of four known grandmothers in the Marco Island area, as a result of our dolphin study program.
