As the Marco Island Academy faculty welcomes students back to school, Ryan Roberts settles into her role as the new MIA Director of Athletics & Activities. The energetic Upstate New York native with an infectious smile is no stranger to Southwest Florida, having experience teaching and coaching at both Everglades City and Lely High School.
At a glance, her office wall is filled with an organized, detailed school calendar full of the year’s activities as she busily finalizes each team’s regular season schedule, along with highlighted games and special events including Senior Nights, Homecoming and Prom.
“My main focuses for the year are fundraising and community involvement, both with the students volunteering in the community and gaining bigger crowds with cheering fans for our student athletes,” explains Ryan Roberts. “This year, we are offering an MIA Season/Annual Pass for purchase with adult, student, and family options. The pass includes free admission to all regular season home games for all MIA sports. I’m also looking for sponsors who might be interested in chartering a bus for the grueling trips to our away district football games. I think it’s wonderful to come together as a community and support these kids.”
MIA coaching staff changes include: Cheerleading- Kirsti Tranoris (head coach) and Leslie Drake, Swimming- Morgan Joseph, and Volleyball- Alyssa Stolinas.
Mark your calendars for these special games:
- MIA Senior Night Friday Night Lights Experience v. Community School at Barron Collier 7 PM on August 24, which includes two food trucks for concessions.
- Three-Day Homecoming Celebration including Volleyball, Football and Dance, September 20-22.
- Pink Out Volleyball Senior Night at MICMS v. Moore Haven, 6 PM on October 2.
