The spirit of giving continues to thrive at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa, and it is evident in the resort’s first quarter contributions to Marco’s three schools and commitment to educating their students.
Since January, the Marriott was a top sponsor for Souper Bowl-Marco, which raised a record-breaking $11,000 for the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Marco scholarship fund. The Marriott also provided a $10,000 sponsorship for the Third Annual Festival on Marco Event, which benefits the Greater Marco Family YMCA and Marco Island Charter Middle School each year.
Supporting Tommie Barfield Elementary’s Bring your own Device (BYOD) program — which encourages students to use today’s technology in the educational learning environment — Marco Island Marriott officials recently donated $5,000 to help provide students who may not have access to these devices with 12 iPads for shared use in the classroom.
Still, the Marriott’s commitment to educating Marco’s youth is most evident in its support for Marco Island Academy. Donations to the school in 2014 include a recent $30,000 fund-matching donation, a $6,600 grant to the school’s Cornell Summer Scholarship and $2,500 to the Ambassador of the Environment Summer program, bringing the resort’s total contributions to the school in 2014 to $50,000 and to just over $180,000 since 2011.
“The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa wouldn’t be the special place that it is without the support of our local community,” said Rick Medwedeff, general manager of Marco Island Marriott. “It is only natural for us that we give back in whatever ways we can to make a positive impact on our neighbors.”
