In January, Marco Bay Yacht Club celebrated its 38th Annual Change of Watch and Commodore’s Ball. The event was held at Hideaway Beach Club, with music provided by the versatile Dan Vass and a wonderful dinner provided by the Hideaway staff. The beautiful floral arrangements of white hydrangea with red roses and miniature blue tinged flowers on tables covered with red, white and blue linens created a perfect environment for the patriotic theme selected by outgoing Commodore Brent Cook.
More than a 100 members and guests were in attendance to witness Commodore Brent Cook welcome Alan Rapp as the new commodore for 2012. Bill Hamlin served as Master of Ceremonies and Alan Sandlin delivered the invocation. Commodore Cook thanked the Bridge, Directors, and Chairpersons for their contribution to the Club during his term as commodore. Continuing the Club’s philanthropic tradition, a $1,000.00 donation was presented to each of the following organizations: the U.S. Coast Guard(USCG); Civil Air Patrol; and the Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron. In December 2011, the Club also made a contribution to The Jean Oswald Memorial Fund of the USCG Station Fort Myers Beach. All four organizations had representatives and their spouses attending the Commodore’ Ball as guests of the Club.
New Commodore Alan Rapp presented his 2012 Bridge and Board. The Club presented outgoing Commodore Cook and his wife Susan with gifts of appreciation for their contribution to the exciting year of Club events. Commodore Rapp urged members to participate in the many activities and learning opportunities offered by the Club.
Cindy Brown and her daughter, Robyn produced and presented a memorable video, set to music, recapping the past years events. Following a fine dinner, members danced to the music of Dan Vass and enjoyed the evening socializing with friends, new and old.
