Marco Island voters chose to return one incumbent councilor to office and rejected the return of two others. Incumbent Councilor Larry Honig will join with newcomers Jared Grifoni, Charlette Roman and Howard Reed when the new council convenes on Monday, November 14 at 5:30 PM in city council chambers.
The top vote getters easily out polled their closest competitors and will see the election of the first female councilor in several years, in addition to the youngest member ever elected to the board in its 18 years of existence. The new board will join with existing councilmen Robert Brown, Joseph Batte and Victor Rios.
A number of major issues will face the newly seated board. Those topics will range from dealing with an ongoing dispute with the Collier County Board of Commissioners over the Goodland Road issue, dealing with growth pressures from off the island, a review of the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan, the ongoing debates dealing with parking, and issues concerning the utility department are amongst just a few of the complex issues.
