For Sue Olszak, the Senior Development Manager for Distinguished Events on Marco Island, the day couldn’t have been more perfect as the American Cancer Society returned to Mackle Park for their annual Relay For Life event and a celebration of their efforts to raise the necessary funds to help defeat cancer.
Proof of accomplishing that goal stood before the participants on Saturday, March 30, as Joan Hilbish received the Sandy Holdgate Spirit of Relay Award. Hilbish is a three-time survivor of the dreaded disease and urged her fellow survivors to continue to make strides in the fight against cancer.
Teams kept busy fundraising throughout the year, hoping to top last year’s staggering $327,000 raised by the Marco Island contingent. Marco has been the top fundraiser these last two years and is striving to continue their dominance within the 400 Relay For Life groups in Florida.
“I am just humbled to be amongst so many wonderful people that contribute so generously to make the elimination of cancer our goal,” said Olszak, as she watched attendees take their laps around the many luminaries in honor of those that have fought such a valiant fight against the disease over the years.
