The Club meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Mackle Park Community center at 10:00 AM. They always provide coffee and donuts, and there is always an interesting speaker. On June 10, Jane Watt to talk about the Marco Island Academy and Discovery Center; and at the July 8 meeting, John Lane, an expert on platform oil drilling will talk about the challenges of drilling in the Gulf of Mexico (very timely).
In addition, the MMC is known for its annual cruises. In April 2011, the club will be sailing from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Muscat, Oman, Cochin, Mumbai (Bombay), India, and other destinations, on Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas. (This co-ed event is sold out). The club also holds co-ed events throughout the year supporting the area theaters, restaurants, and more.
The Marco Men’s Club was established in 1992 by Paul Kurtzman, who became the first President, and he is still around. (Actually the women in the Marco Island Newcomers Group would not let Paul join, so he started his own club—a good joke, but partially true because the women encouraged Paul to start the Men’s Club to keep their husbands occupied and out of their hair.) The purpose of the MMC is to bring together men residents of the area so that they may meet and make new friends for social purposes. The club also gets involved in community efforts such as blood drives, learning CPR, Honoring Veterans, and inviting speakers to talk on local issues. Membership, open to legal residents of Marco Island, Goodland, and now the Isles of Capri, has grown to about 535 men.
