Members and guests of Marco Island Writers will welcome Ft. Myers’ Martha Jeffers, copy editor, for an important class on editing. Jeffers promises to make the boring subject of grammar and editing humorous and entertaining as well as educational. The “Grammar Granny” has been featured in the “News-Press,” and Martha has shared her humorous grammar presentations with various civic groups, as well as Florida Gulf Coast University and several elementary schools.

Martha and her husband moved from southeastern Ohio to Lee County in 1969. Several years later, she began working as a career counselor for the School District of Lee County, retiring in 1999 after 25 years. She has served as president of the Lee County Vocational Association and president of the Gulf Coast Writers Association Corporate Board.

The last thirty minutes of the meeting will be set aside to assist the members with computer technology tips taught by Lisa Wroble, member of MIW and educator.

The January meeting included legal information writers’ contracts and copyright laws presented by Anne Dalton, attorney.

Marco Island Writers has a display in the Marco Island Library from mid-January to mid-February promoting the local authors of the group, as well as announcing the upcoming 2nd Annual Authorfest to take place Saturday, March 8, at the Marco Lutheran Church. Forty local authors will be participating in Authorfest and offering their books for sale.

Those interested in writing of all skill levels are welcome. Meetings are the second Wednesday of every month at the Marco Lutheran Church at 525 N. Collier Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 PM to sign in and network. First-time visitors are always free; however, there will be a $2 door fee for members/$3 for returning non-members for the Feb. 12 meeting. For more information, contact president Joanne Tailele at 239-784-2637, marcoislandwriters@yahoo.com or the website at www.marcoislandwriters.com.
