Eighteen people including five guests attended Marco Island Writers July meeting held at the ERA Flagship office. Introductions were made followed by accounts of the attendees’ experiences as writers. Many of the guests and first-time attendees reported impressive successes as published writers; more than a few have numerous publications. Use of the Lending Library was suggested and members were encouraged to participate by mutual lending and borrowing.
The evening’s speaker, MIW member, Connie Gaertner, shared her experiences and successes on marketing her work. She offered very specific advice; such as 1) sending ads to the National Committee of Librarians, 2) press releases 3)video marketing 4) obtaining professional reviews 5) Kirkus Foreword. She also highly recommended Anne Dalton, a local Naples lawyer who is very knowledgeable on publishing rights. She eagerly shared and openly discussed her valuable experiences in becoming published. Connieengaged in lively discussion with the audience resulting in a very productive evening.
The next meeting of MIW will be August 14, 2013 at the Marco Art League at 6:00PM. Lisa Wroble, author of 27 published books and over 1000 articles for magazines, websites, and reference books will be teaching a ninety minute workshop on Dialogue. She is an educator teaching at Edison State College and provides writing workshops at Hodges University Center for Lifelong Learning and the Renaissance Academy at Florida Gulf Coast University. Members and guests are encouraged to attend this very beneficial event which will surely assist them in their writing ventures. Doors open at 5:30 to sign in and to network with other writers.
