At the December gathering, Marco Island Writers, Inc. (MIWI) President Liz Noyes stimulated a thoughtful discussion on the power of selecting the right word and the importance of revision. Afterwards there was social time to usher in the holidays and salute to the achievements of 2016.
For our January 11, 2017 meeting, we will meet at Marco Lutheran Church at 525 North Collier Blvd., at the usual time 6 to 8 PM, because our home place, Marco Island Center for the Arts, has another event that evening. Please note that Marco Lutheran Church is a one-time meeting location, and our subsequent meetings will return to the Marco Island Center for the Arts.
We are starting 2017 with a bang in that our speaker, Anne Dalton, will address the topics of copyright, fair use and invasion of privacy/defamation in writing fiction, non-fiction/memoirs. These are nitty gritty things that most writers do not know how to deal with. Anne has distinguished herself in the legal field, including but not limited to the subfield of creative arts, having served as senior attorney for Radio City Music Hall in NYC, as legal and business affairs counsel for the ABC Network News Division and ABC News Magazine “20/20. Marco Island Writers, Inc. is open to writers of all skill levels and genres. No matter what your genre of interest is, our group may be able to help motivate and sustain your commitment to your writing. Our motto is “Writers Helping Writers.” First time visitors are welcome with no admission fee. We meet the second Wednesday of each month, year round, 6 to 8 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM for sign-in and social prior to the meeting.
