According to the coaches, it was a hard-fought game with Marco Island United coming from behind to win their spot in the finals. During the grueling semi-final game against second ranked Naples All Star, Marco Island United was behind 2-0 but in the final four minutes of the game, the team rallied together to tie the game 2-2. The game ended in overtime and nail-biting penalty kicks, but with the help of Marco Island United’s skilled goalkeeper, Rowen Banister, they pulled ahead and clinched the winning score, 2-1. Matthew Gallup and Brysen Heflin scored the two winning penalty kicks.
During the finals, underdog and number three ranked Marco Island United faced number one ranked Tiny Boys of Naples, a team who only let in six goals all season and played a strong defensive game. In the beginning of the second half, center defensive player and team Captain, Matthew Gallup, scored the only goal of the game off a corner kick, earning his well-deserved Most Valuable Player of the Game trophy. Marco Island United SC won the final by a score of 1-0. This was the first season for Marco Island United Soccer Club.
