Members of the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron want the community to know more about the many educational and social opportunities available through this organization for interested boaters and to those who may wish to become boaters some day. To spread the word, the Power Squadron recently joined the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce, and participated in the 2015 Business Expo held on April 6th at the Marriott Beach Resort. Attendees at the Business Expo had information available regarding the many boating classes sponsored by the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron, including the popular America’s Boating Course, and courses in Seamanship, Piloting, Navigation, as well as on the water training. Information on these courses is available from the Educational Officer, Ted Reiss, at 239-213-8722, or by email at justus8032@ yahoo.com.
Posters and handouts at the EXPO also outlined some of the many social functions sponsored by the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron, including the Captains’ Meetings held the 2nd and last Wednesdays (May through September) from 5-7 p.m. at CJ’s Gazebo Bar at the Esplanade. Everyone is welcome, including boat owners and those simply interested in boating. Pictures at the event displayed the good times had by Squadron members on their many cruises and picnics to local area islands, lunches at area restaurants, and monthly dinner meetings. Squadron members also offered information to Business Expo attendees on the use of flares, on the importance of Life Jackets, and ran a simulation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) that displayed radar readings, depth, and information on a boat’s location. Information was also provided on free boat inspections performed by Squadron members through their Vessel Safety Check program and readily available to Marco Island residents. More information on this can be obtained from Tom Ryan at 239-389-6585 or email@example.com. Participation in the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Business EXPO proved to be a valuable experience for the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron, and members left the event assured that attendees now know more about the work of the Squadron and the many benefits it provides to the community.
