Today the Art League Marco Island’s Center for the Arts, announced the establishment of a community sponsored gallery wall. A group of Marco Island neighbors have joined together as PALs “Patrons of the Art League” to help shore up the finances of the Art League. Jean King, a long time Art League member, initiated the effort by graciously donating $500. Ms. King challenged others who agree with her that the Art League plays a valuable community role to join as a group in sponsoring a wall in the prestigious Lauritzen/Rush Gallery.

As a result of Ms. King’s challenge, other individuals came forward, recognizing that the Art League not only promotes education in and appreciation of excellence in the arts, but is also an important economic asset in our community.  A plaque on their gallery wall will read, “Marco Island Neighbors Support the Art League.”

Christine Neal, Art League Executive Director, commends each one in the group ? not all of whom are Art League members ? for being such good neighbors, willing to step up and meet a critical need on Marco Island. The sponsors include: Karen & Wes Blackwell; Carolyn & John Cachianes; Lisa Hammond; Amy & Jim Kauffman; Meredith and Bob Letham; Carole and Steve Roberts; Sue & Bob Stone; and Alison and Clark Yeh.

Efforts are underway to find business sponsors for the one remaining PALs gallery wall.  Georgie Doll, owner of the popular “Georgie’s and the Shoe Resort” is challenging other caring business women and men to join with her and contribute to the “Marco Island Business Supports the Art League” wall. According to Doll, “The arts play a vital role in our local economy and quality of life.” She believes that “Residents and tourists alike are attracted to our beautiful Marco Island for many reasons, including the cultural opportunities provided by the Art League.”

To date more than 60 individuals and local businesses have joined together in support of the Art League by sponsoring a gallery wall. Other PALs include:  Marco Community Bank; Dr Ed and Cindy Cohen; Gems and Jewels Arts & Entertainment Club; Hilton Marco Island Resort & Spa; Riverchase Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery; and Art League Leadership ? Past and Future. For more information, contact PALs chairperson Carole Roberts at: 239-394-1910; or caroletroberts@comcast.net.
