The second annual Marco Island Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, March 18. The annual race was inaugurated in 2009 and last year it was expanded from a 10 mile race to a half marathon. Marco lsland is the largest of the 10,000 islands and its Indian Hill is the highest natural elevation in all of south Florida. The highest natural point on the race course is approximately 24 feet above sea level and the course also includes the Goodland Bridge at over 50 feet.
The race participation has grown each year with over 350 runners in last year’s half marathon and race organizers are projecting 500 runners for this year’s run.
The race is conducted by the Marco Island Half Marathon, Inc., a non-profit corporation organized by local island runners. Comprísed of all volunteers, it is dedicated to providing an excellent regional race and contributing to local charities.
