It was all Marco Island Academy as the Rays showed no mercy in racing to an 84-19 win

over Mason Classical Academy on Thursday, December 3rd, at the Marco middle school gym.

Rays coach Travis Barry, while happy with his team’s win, had empathy for his opponent. After all, Barry has been on the short end of similar results as he was starting to build the Rays into a competitive squad.

“It’s a good start to the season,” Barry said, “this Mason Classical Academy team is in the same place we were a couple of years ago.”

In Barry’s first two seasons at MIA, his teams finished 5-21 and 4-20, while playing with rosters filled with freshmen and sophomores. But now he has a line-up that features juniors and a senior in key roles and hopes to see that translate to more wins this season.

This one was over early, as the Rays jumped out to a 33-4 lead in the first quarter as Kevin Barry, the coach’s son, scored 13 points himself.

MIA was up 64-12 at halftime and Barry was able to get playing time for his entire team as his team continued to cruise in the second half.

Kevin Barry, a sharpshooter from outside who is also taking the ball to the rim, led all scorers with 35 points—with 3 three-pointers.

Dominic Moller, the team’s only senior, scored 17 points—with 3 three-pointers. Quinton Fitton scored 11, Kyler Howard 7 and sophomore Joe Reisinger chipped in with 5.
