These awards recognize properties and owners in 5 categories that have made a special effort to contribute to the beauty of Marco Island. The categories are: Residential single family homes, Commercial properties zoned C1 to C5, Condominium complex grounds, Cul-de-sacs, and Institutional properties.
Criteria include use of native and water-wise plants, use of color and contrasting plants, visibility from public areas, and creativity. The competition is open exclusively to Marco Island property owners.
How do you nominate a property? Complete the application, which is on the City’s website: www.cityofmarcoisland.com (look for it on the Beautification Advisory Committee page). You can also pick one up at city Hall or Mackle Park. Return it with 3 to 10 photos of your chosen property and a narrative of why you think the property deserves the award by March 16, 2011 to the Parks & Recreation office at Mackle Park.
Who knows? With a little careful planning, planting and tending, your own property might be a winner!
