Marco Firefighter Terminated

The City of Marco Island Fire Rescue Department has terminated the employment of Marco Island Firefighter/EMT Nicolas Macchiarolo following his February 28th no contest plea to charges of using a two-way communication device to commit a felony. Macchiarolo, who is on probation for three years, was arrested in May 2018 for sending sexual texts to a minor female.

The following statement has been issued by the City of Marco Island Fire Rescue Chief Michael Murphy:

Marco Island Fire Rescue Department takes very seriously the conduct of its employees. FF/EMT Macchiarolo has been given written notice of his termination effective immediately March 7, 2019. The actions and admissions by FF/EMT Macchiarolo are not consistent with the integrity, trustworthiness and decorum expected of a Firefighter of the City of Marco Island.

It seems like an unusually high number of Marco Island employees are being fired for cause. I have only been following Marco news for about a year but we have had a town manager, two (or three?) police officers, a programmer, and now a firefighter get fired. There may be more than this. I suggest that a review of our towns hiring practices are in order.
