The Marco Cruise Club celebrated its 38th annual “Change of Watch” ceremony on Jan. 23 at the Island Country Club.
During the event, members and guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a filet mignon dinner. Following dinner, past Commodore Tom Thacher introduced the outgoing Commodore Joan Kenney, who received a gift for her leadership of the 2014 bridge. Kenney thanked the club for her year.
New Commodore Neil Blaauboer was sworn in and received the 2015 gavel and new flag. Past Commodore Thacher then introduced the new bridge officers: Vice Commodore Tom Dines, Rear Commodore LynnStiles, Secretary Palma Klein and Treasurer Betty Thacher.
The festive formal evening continued with music and members filled the dance floor.
“Change of Watch” is a Naval tradition passing full authority, responsibility and accountability from one officer to another. For MCC, it represents a change of leadership from the outgoingcommodore to a new successor.
Marco Cruise club was founded in 1975 and is one of the oldest boating clubs on Marco. We are a friendly club and welcome boating enthusiasts to join us at some of our luncheons or outings.
