Undaunted by high winds, low water, and strong tides, the Marco Bay Yacht Club conducted the traditional Presentation of the Fleet for the new Commodore with some unusual and fun twists! Although the intent was to conduct the ceremony on the water at their home base of the Esplanade Marina, the Club Members, guests, and observers—thanks to portable heaters provided by CJ’s on the Bay—gathered at the Star Bar and the ceremony went on as usual.
Commodore Larry Sacher welcomed the crowd and began with a recorded version of the Star-Spangled Banner, followed by Club Historian/Chaplin Alan Sandlin who first gave a very interesting history of the Marco Bay Yacht Club, which is Marco’s oldest boating club. Alan then gave a heartfelt prayer for all boaters and the Blessing of the Fleet. Before the participants were presented, those Members who passed away this past year were honored with a rose placed in the water by Vice Commodore Bob White: Carol Windschitl, Robert Bagshaw, Robert Kuhn, John “Jack” Coffin, and Luther Hayes, as well as an additional rose for those who had passed away in the past.
The Bridge Boat attendees were recognized: Captain Bill Schroeder and First Mate Debbie were introduced, as well as Commodore Sacher, his First Mate (and as he described her, “the Real Commodore”) Judy, Vice Commodore Bob White and his First Mate Marjorie, as well as Historian/Chaplin Alan Sandlin and First Mate Linda; Rear Commodore Sandy LaMontagne and First Mate Bob were unable to be present.
Fleet Captain Brent Cook, along with First Mate Susan, and their guests, were the first to present to the Bridge; each boat followed with the Captain introducing themselves and First Mate, and any guests. The boat crews: Vern and Ann Graham as well as their guests John and Dianne Kernan, Chuck and Janice Hubscher, Charles and Holly Erker, Mike and Cindy Brown, Dr. Paul and Lydia Krueger, Dan and Deb Lowell, Jerry and Cheri Hoover, Don Orth and Past Commodore Sally, introduced their guests, Past Commodore Charlie Skillern, along with Paula, Past Commodore Frank Mulligan and Marianne and Past Commodore Rudi Landwaard and Dorothy.
A great lunch was prepared by Chef Laura and her Staff at CJ’s on The Bay; Club Photographer Dan Lowell captured as many candid photos as he could, while First Mate Debbie made sure that everyone had the most recent Club Roster.
