The Marco Island Civitan Club is proud to announce the chartering of the Manatee Middle School Junior Civitan Club.

Junior Civitan clubs are service clubs dedicated to provide volunteer hours to local communities. Its purpose is to provide all of the members personal and career development opportunities, while improving schools and communities through volunteer service. Among some of the projects are environmental awareness, social causes, food and toy drives, and more. They also can apply for scholarships given at club, district and/or international levels. The clubs are formed by young people who are committed to making a difference in their communities.

Civitan Club President Robert Kircher and his wife Nery contacted Manatee Middle School Principal Pamela Vickaryous and presented her with the opportunities this club can bring to its members, such as volunteering in an organized way, leadership opportunities, and the fellowship of belonging to a club. Principal Vickaryous contacted special educational teacher, Tara LuGiudice and proposed to her the idea of having her students being part of this club. She was thrilled and accepted to have these special students to be part of this club. Among the things they are planning to do are: a friendship garden, a “People First” communication video for the school, and a book drive.
